Everyone uses the word hate at some time in his/her life, but most of the time it's just lashing out, like a kid telling her mom or dad she hates them. The ones who don't necessarily use the word but act it out are the ones who really are filled with hate. When people shout obscene names and abuse at politicians and make threats against them like has been happening lately, they are spewing hate from deep within. Like a cancer that kind of hatred is growing in America.
Where does all of this hate come from? Sarah Palin, Fox News and others have encouraged the craziness and fueled the fires of hatred in this country. I, for one, am disgusted and discouraged by what I've seen. How can people call themselves Christian and create such an environment of hate? If they actually read and believed the words of Jesus, they couldn't possibly say and do the things they do. If they are truly Christians, why don't they stand up against the hate and threats that their Tea Party allies are exhibiting? Self-delusion can be hard to recognize when the lust for power blinds them to the truth.
During the last election, Sarah Palin protested loudly against (President) Obama, as a friend of terrorists because he served on a charitable board with someone who was accused of a terrorist act. They weren't "pals", as she said, and she either knew the truth and lied or was just plain ignorant. I believe it was the former, as she said it in her lust for power. She often comes across as ignorant, but she's very shrewd when it comes to getting what she wants. Now look at who her "pals" are - hate and fear mongers creating terror across the country. It's a shame that others who are truly ignorant believe the lies and regurgitate them and spread them about. By stirring up masses of people, she and others like her have created a huge breach in this country - the worst since the Civil War. And for what? Not for the good of the country but for personal gain. They are false prophets using the name of God in vain and trying to create a theocracy with hate.
How do we stop it? It's very difficult to do if the good people don't band together and fight it actively. Where are the churches, the so-called patriotic Republicans, and the mainstream media? I see shades of the KKK in these demonstrations and believe that much of the masked racism in this country has become unmasked and reared its ugly head. Remember, the KKK call themselves Christians, yet align themselves with Neo-Nazi and militia groups. The Alaskan Independence Party is one of those groups that hates the government, and who spoke at their convention last year? Sarah Palin. These are all groups that thrive on hate, and they are getting a big boost in membership and publicity from the likes of the Tea Party, which was started by Fox News. And who spoke at their convention this year? Sarah Palin. Do you see a theme here?
Some say ignorance is bliss, but I say it's subversive, pathetic and often dangerous. I've heard people talk about the dumbing down of America, and I feel they are right. If the masses are ignorant, it's much easier to promote fear and hatred and control thought, which is what dictators have done for centuries. As they say, "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." The conservatives want absolute power and seem to be willing to do or say almost anything to get it.
Recently, there was a horrible mine disaster in West Virginia. The man responsible for that mine has a lot of power and control in the state, yet he doesn't even live there. As they say money talks. His lust for power and money is legendary, yet what are the poor folks in WV to do without the mines? He has kept the union out and kept the people under his power too long. I hope this disaster will finally wake some people up to the truth. He pretends to care for the state and the people, but he is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Guess which political party he belongs to. The party of No soul. What's sad is that many of these miners and their families believe the crap the Tea Party and others dish out, and they have no idea they are only hurting themselves.
Besides race, the conservative pundits, preachers and politicians have gotten so many on their side by appealing to one or two emotional issues and blinding folks to so many other issues that affect them. They rant about the government interfering in our lives, yet they want to tell others how to live theirs. As long as the poor are kept in their place, the Republicans thrive. Them that's got shall have... Of course, that's not what the Gospels say. The opposite is true according to many verses. Can't they read? Talk about your dumbing down!
I heard this on a TV movie and thought it was so very true: "Hate is mud in the water. Wait for it to settle, and then you will see clearly." Hate hurts everyone it touches. It eats people up from the inside out and spews over onto others. It muddies the mind and soul and keeps people from seeing clearly what really matters and what life is all about. The world is such a beautiful place. Just watching a sunset over the Gulf or sitting on my porch looking at the new flowers blooming I wonder how folks can be so preoccupied with hate. I think it's time to take a stand for beauty and love and against hate.
